It was a hard-fought District 2 championship match and we are proud of the Thunder volleyball team for their 2nd place finish. We will continue to cheer them on next week at the Region 1 volleyball tournament in Jamestown. Congratulations to Brynn Sorenson and Violet Bohl for being named to the All-District Team. Also, a big congratulations to Brynn for being named as the District 2 Outstanding Senior Athlete of the Year! Go Thunder!

North Dakota students who qualify for free or reduced-price school meals will continue receiving them for the remainder of the school year, even if federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits are paused due to the ongoing government shutdown.
While SNAP, commonly known as “food stamps”, helps low-income families buy groceries, school meal programs are funded and administered separately by NDDPI on behalf of the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
NDDPI also administers several other food programs available to North Dakotans: - The Emergency Food Assistance Program (TEFAP) – Offered through local food pantries and soup kitchens. - The Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP) – Available for low-income households with at least one member age 60 or older. - The Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR) – Provides USDA foods to eligible Native households.
Melissa Anderson, NDDPI’s assistant director of child nutrition and food distribution, noted that if SNAP funds are paused, these programs may see increased demand as more families seek local assistance. Read more -> https://www.nd.gov/dpi/news/baesler-snap-money-halt-wont-affect-school-meals

Service Learning with Juniors and Seniors--
Yesterday our junior and senior students got out into the community to help with a variety of projects. Students helped with fall clean up, landscape projects, apple picking, closet organization, mowing, cleaning toys, cafe prep, and more! In addition to projects outside the school, we had military recruiters here to assist our students in making paracord bracelets and lanyards and also were assisting the Ronald McDonald House with a national service project to color and cut out 16,000 paper ornaments for their annual giving tree. It was a great day of volunteering and giving back to a community that has supported our students in so many ways!
We are looking to see if there is a need for a school-wide backpack program for our Medina students. A backpack program provides students with shelf-stable, easy-to-prepare meals and snacks to take home over the weekends and school breaks when school meals are not available. Participating students receive a FREE discreetly packed bag in their locker or backpack at the end of each week. Any family needing some additional food support on weekends or school breaks are encouraged to sign up.
If you have not completed the interest survey regarding this program, please do. Whether you are interested in signing up to receive weekend meals, volunteer to assist with the program or would like to donate to the program, please fill it out. It will take 5 minutes tops!
Thank you for your help!
