This information was sent home with all elementary students at the end of the school year, but just in case you missed it, here it is again.
Dear Parents,
The research is clear that children who don't read during the summer can lose up to three months of reading progress and that loss has a cumulative, long-term effect.
With that being said, we have created a SUMMER READING CHALLENGE for the elementary students of Medina Public School. This is a challenge to ALL students from the Title 1 Department as we are going to Schoolwide Title 1 next year.
Pre-school thru 2nd grade are challenged to read 8 books (or more) or have 8 books (or more) read aloud to them by an adult in both June and July. These books can be picture books or chapter books. Book titles should be recorded on the bookmark (front/back) provided.
3rd grade thru 6th grade are challenged to read independently for a total of 300 minutes or more and try reading different genres of books this summer. Minutes and genres should be recorded on the form provided.
If you need any picture or chapter books, contact Kim Hoffmann below.
The Reading Challenge will end on July 31, 2021. You can email or text us a picture of the completed forms by August 5, 2021. Prizes for completing the Reading Challenge will be mailed to your child before school starts.
Have FUN reading this SUMMER!
3rd – 6th email to Kim.hoffmann@k12.nd.us
